The Risk Management from Basel II Perspective.
Implications for Romanian Banks

Authors: Claudia BAICU and Silvia OLARU

Published in: Vol:9 No.1 / 2008

The first part of this paper describes the main provisions of the Basel II Accord (2004) and the innovative elements that it presents compared to the 1988 version. The new accord offers a more efficient regulatory framework for banking risk management, allowing a better correlation between the own funds of the banks and the risks they assume.

The second part of the paper contains some considerations regarding implementing Basel II in Romania both from the central bank perspective, as authority responsible with the banking system supervision, and the credit institutions.
