The concept of SME`s covers business of various dimensions, implied in a large scale of activities as simple or complex as they come. SME`s are more often classified according to their number of employees and turnover. The size classification varies within regions and across countries relative to the economy size and its endowments.
Almost everywhere statistics demonstrate the absolute role of SME`s in economy, contribution in GDP and the labour market.
This paper focuses on SME`s in three major poles in the world economy: USA, Japan and EU; a concise survey of the SME`s in other geographical areas tries to add to the picture.
